Streets of Cusco
At the corner of Hatunrumiyoq and Herrajes streets, is the old Archbishop Palace. The large house, where today we find the Religious Art Museum, was built over the walls of Inca Roca Palace and it is situated one block far from the Main Square. The external wall, made up by large stone blocks, constitutes an impressive testimony of the Incan past of this building. Above it, there is a simple adobe wall and a stone front with the carved coats of arms of its former owners. Another detail of the façade is the square, splendidly carved balcony, which surrounds the window of Mudejar reminiscences.
In Cuesta del Almirante we find the Palace of the Admiral (Palacio del Almirante) another beautiful Cusco expression of colonial architecture, at present houses the Inca museum holding a wide variety of Inca archaeological remnants found in the Cusco zone.

The San Blas quarter
Further up Cuesta del Almirante we come across the church of San Blas. During the Incan times it was one of the most significant districts of Cusco and its name was "T'oqo-kachi" (T'oqo = dip; kachi = salt). The church of San Blas, built in 1563, is the oldest parish of Cusco; it was erected over an Incan Sanctuary dedicated to the worship of "Illapa" (god of the thunder and lightning). The quarter of San Blas is one of the most picturesque places in the city, where one can visit the workshops of the renowned Cusco artisans. Its narrow back streets zigzag between big old houses built of Incan stones and little squares. From the area some aerial  views of the city are possible. Known as the "District of the Artists" it houses shops and artisans stores including those of the Mendivil dynasty, the creators of the multicoloured and traditional, long-necked angels which have become a symbol of all things Peruvian.

Santo Domingo Church and Convent
Due to the significant participation of the Dominicans in the conquest of Peru, the church of the order was built over the base of the most important monument of the Tawantinsuyo: the Koricancha, the temple of the Sun.
The feature of the building is the perfect adjustment to the primitive Incan temple, which is clearly reflected in the way that the vault arises taking advantage of the curve of the pre-Hispanic wall. In the middle of the cloister there is a fountain carved in a single andesite stone thought to be of Inkan manufacture. At two sides of the cloister, the colonial construction has been removed to expose the temples that surrounded the main Indian temple. Around the cloister renaissance arcades there is a collection of canvases painted by anonymous local Cusquenian School artists.

Church and Convent of the Merced
This baroque-style church was founded in 1536. It has a baroque tower and the convent's cloister is the most beautiful structure within the complex. They exhibit the consecrated image of Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia (Our Lady of Mercy).

Central market
A more offbeat adventure can be had by plunging into the labyrinthine depths of Cusco's central market. This bustling trading emporium with picturesque stalls run by traders from all over the country offers everything from coffee, fruit and jungle spices to fresh fish brought up from Lima. This marketplace is a unique universe in itself, a place where one can really a true feel for the real beat of the city: chaotic, but filled with warmth and colour. An enormous, intricate and dense tangle of stalls crammed with peppers, amaranth, potatoes, sweaters of baby alpaca, hand-carved chess sets, shoes, hats, underwear, anything a family might need.
