Hosap Kalesi and the ruins of Çavustepe
The Hosap castle was built around 350 years ago by the leader of a Kurdish clan. During the eighth century BC, Çavustepe served as the foundation of Sarduri-Hinili, the palace of King Sarduri II. From their capital of Tushpa (present-day Van), the Urartu dominated southeastern Anatolia for several centuries, commanding a modest empire that stretched into Armenia, Iran, Iraq and Syria. At the wall of the king's palace some cuneiform Urartian writing can be seen.
